Step back in time and experience life in Fort Myers as it was more than a century ago. Built in 1901, this elegant Georgian Revival–style mansion once hosted grand social gatherings among the region’s most prominent families.
Located in the vibrant River District of downtown Fort Myers, the Burroughs Home & Gardens is the only historic home of its era still standing in its original location and open to the public. During your visit, you’ll explore the legacy of the Burroughs family and learn about notable Americans who graced the home, including Thomas Edison and Henry Ford.
Lovingly preserved and authentically restored, the home features original furnishings, heirloom décor, and family photographs that bring the early 1900s vividly to life.
Stroll beneath majestic live oaks, wander through lush gardens, or relax in a rocking chair on the stately verandah as the Caloosahatchee River drifts by. Then, meet Mona and Jettie Burroughs — the spirited daughters of Nelson and Adeline Burroughs — as their stories and charming recollections offer a delightful glimpse into life inside one of Fort Myers’ grandest historic mansions.
